My experience has led me to place a great deal of value in getting to know the whole person and their life story, rather than focusing solely on symptoms or medications.
As a native New Yorker with multicultural ties, I am deeply committed to supporting underrepresented individuals seeking mental healthcare, by offering care that is inclusive, compassionate, identity-affirming, and culturally sensitive. My approach is warm, patient-centered, and individualized, with an emphasis on creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable sharing your concerns and goals.
When I was in medical school, one of my mentors would always tell patients, with deep sincerity, that it was an honor and a privilege to be part of their care. This powerful sentiment has stayed with me, and I continue to approach each patient with respect, dignity, and hope.
As both a physician and psychiatrist, I work to ensure that underlying medical conditions are not contributing to psychiatric symptoms or complicating treatment. I focus on evaluating and coordinating care with other members of the healthcare team, including psychotherapists, primary care doctors, and specialists. Where clinically appropriate, I may recommend medication to address active concerns. At the same time, I often incorporate talk therapy techniques — drawn from psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)—into our medication management visits, using a holistic approach to treatment that addresses both the mind and body.
